Solihull Hospital Dermatology Unit
The construction and commissioning of a new Dermatology Unit at Solihull Hospital, undertaken in a live healthcare environment for The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.
Location Solihull Hospital, Lode Lane, Solihull, B91 2JL
Client The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust
The construction and commissioning of a new Dermatology Unit at first floor level at Solihull Hospital within and alongside “live and occupied” buildings and departments in the heart of the hospital complex. The conversion of an existing 1st floor area into the new Dermatology unit involved the installation of extensive new M&E services including ventilation, air conditioning, IPS and UPS equipment and specialist equipment, undertaken within tight deadlines as required by The Heart of England NHS Foundation.
The works were located within the Main Hospital complex which provided a logistical challenge to our site team. The work was completed in a live, busy occupied hospital environment where it was critical that we retained all live services to the adjacent departments throughout the programme. The ground floor ward immediately below the site and the adjacent first floor wards were all occupied.
Our Traffic management and logistical plan allowed for safe and secure external access for both AMG, hospital staff and visitors as the work areas were segregated from adjacent buildings and departments using extensive temporary works, notices & signage, secure robust temporary hoardings and barriers.
Externally, new paved areas, paths and parking areas were formed, SUDS drainage and new incoming services. BREEAM rating Very Good.
The work also necessitated modifications and refurbishment to the areas immediately below the new department with new services installations.
